I celebrated the start of 2012 with a swim in the sea at Polkerris in Cornwall. Unfortunately it was not a day like the one in the photo above. It was far more grey, wild and windy than that.

The New Year’s Day swim is a tradition that my husband started four years ago. In truth it started as a dare he gave to one of his best friends. The reality is that the said friend has never participated in the swim – in fact this time he went as far as Sydney to avoid the chilly water.

Winter in Runnymede Park
